8SEC is a team of skilled developers based in France that design, develop, and publish hybrid casual mobile games. Their titles have achieved over 50 million downloads and they’re continuing to scale quickly with new hits that strive to deliver fun across the globe.

For their recent game Hero Squad, 8SEC relied on Luna’s easy-to-use products to design videos and interactive creatives in-house. Hear from Louis Croquet, Chief Creative Officer at 8SEC, about his experience using Luna to streamline production and build creatives that achieved over 74 million impressions, increased average CTR  to 75%, and boosted CVR by 30%.

Relying on internal resources

We don’t have a dedicated developer for designing creatives, and we don’t outsource to an external organization - our internal design team builds video creatives and GIFs because that’s what we can manage to do with our time and resources.

"We wanted to design interactive creatives for our game because they can encourage higher engagement and can drive higher-quality users."

But we wanted to design interactive creatives for our game because they can encourage higher engagement and can drive higher-quality users who get a taste of the gameplay experience and want to keep playing. So we looked for a solution that would let us build videos and playable ads internally without straining our limited resources.

Testing unlimited concepts and building interactive experiences

Luna ticked both boxes for us - designing video and playable creatives, both completely in-house. Using Luna Replay, we can create unlimited variations of video creatives in Unity with a recording of our gameplay - and with the plugin, we don’t need to exit our web browser. Since there’s no coding needed, anyone on our team can use the tool and design video creatives. Then we just export our ads to all of the major ad networks instead of having to design creatives for each network’s specifications, like we did before using Luna. Replay has helped us test and iterate many more concepts, which led to increasing our video creative production from 30 per designer each week to over 50.

For interactive creatives, we use Luna Elements, which turns our videos into playable experiences by choosing from customizable templates and assets. It doesn’t require a dedicated developer and makes interactive creative development accessible to anyone on our team. Streamlining the production process also lets us be more dynamic, like quickly designing and launching IECs for the holidays. We’ve both iterated on new concepts and turned top-performing Replay video creatives into interactive end cards so the ad experience feels more seamless and engaging. Before using Elements, we were using GIFs as end cards for our videos - now we have high-quality IECs that we can test and optimize to boost performance.

Achieving over 74 million impressions with Luna-built creatives

Taking full advantage of both Luna products, we’ve concept-tested and iterated many more creatives than before. In fact, we’ve established a virtuous cycle of testing and optimizing video creatives that then informed our playable designs. Gathering the learnings based on our interactive creative performance then helps us improve our videos - all leads to more scale and greater engagement.

Since starting to use Luna, in the past three months we’ve generated over 74 million impressions for our campaign, increased CTR to an average of 75%, and increased overall CVR by 30% - all from our Luna-built creatives alone.

Bottom line: Using Luna is incredibly easy and gives our entire team the power to test and build creatives. We’ve been very pleased with our results, seeing an increase in both our scale of creative production and performance.

As we start growing new titles, we’ll be relying on Luna again for building, testing, and optimizing our creatives. We’re actively working with the Luna team and getting feedback on our creatives as we look to achieve similar success as Hero Squad.
